Horticulture

Our well-equipped glasshouses, polytunnels and nursery beds, provide an ideal environment for Trainees to put into practice the skills they learn from their horticultural tutors.

Following the NPTC 'Skills for Working Life' programme, our Trainees have the opportunity to learn all aspects of horticulture, from the raising of seedlings and 'pricking out' through 'potting on' to the maintenance of established plants. This 'hands on' approach means our Trainees gain a wide knowledge of shrubs and plants.

Their aim is to sell these carefully nurtured shrubs and plants to members of the public, and our Trainees take part in this aspect of horticulture as well thereby learning to handle money and gain self confidence.
