1. What does Spadework do?
We help adults with special needs towards independence through training, support and work experience. In a few cases that may mean independent living and open employment or alternatively simply greater self confidence to interact with the community. Each person is different with changing needs and aspirations.

2. Who do Spadework help?
Adults with mild to moderate special needs between 18 – 65.

3. How do I find out if I am eligible?
The majority of our trainees are referred to us by Social Services via the Care Management system. If you have a Care Manager talk to them and they will refer you to us. If you do not have a Care Manager give us a call and we will advise you.

4. Who pays for my place?
Social Services sponsor the majority of places at Spadework alternatively this can also be paid by a Care Home. If you are on the Direct Payments Scheme you will be able to pay for the place yourself.

5. How do I find out if I would like Spadework?
All potential trainees are invited to visit us for a look round when you will be able to see how we work and talk to the people who already come here. You will then be offered a ‘Taster Day’ when you can join us for a day to make sure this is where you want to be before making a decision.

6. How many days do I have to come to Spadework?
The choice is yours. We have people who join us for one day a week, others who come full time, Monday to Friday. We would suggest you start small and build up your time with us as you progress.

7. What can I learn at Spadework?
We provide work experience in Commercial Horticulture, Gardening, Catering, and Woodwork. We also provide training in health & hygiene, computers, numeracy & literacy, retail skills and employment skills. We train in a semi commercial environment so you will know that the skills you are learning have a practical base, you can see the results of your hard work and be able to find your place in the community.
